A Wheel of Perpetual Enginery
Also re-discovered in an old issue of Wired I stumbled upon last night (see earlier) was a very short article about Aldo Costa and his backyard perpetual motion machine.
It's old news, but I like the image. And I like perpetual motion.

geoff - you might also be interested in this little backyard gem, The Blue Flash! And next big thing did a radio show on it last month, listen here.
Too bad the Blue Flash doesn't actually go through the guy's house... I think 5th Avenue should be shut down, closed to traffic - and the world's longest and most complex roller coaster should then be installed there, looping loops around lightposts and blasting northward over Harlem... Back again toward Soho... The whole ride takes more than 2 hours. The neighbors couldn't possibly complain.
